What I Learned from Leading a Global Employee Resource Group
During my time as a global co-chair for our Pride resource group—spanning over 1,000 members across the globe—I had the privilege of helping foster community, facilitate tough conversations, and celebrate the full spectrum of identity in the workplace. The experience taught me so much, but three lessons stand out most:
People are hungry for connection
In a hybrid world where so many of us are isolated behind screens, people are craving opportunities to be seen, heard, and understood. Community spaces—especially those centered on shared identity and purpose—help people feel less alone.
Allies want to engage, but they need guidance
Many allies are eager to show up, listen, and learn—but fear of getting it wrong can hold them back. When we create safer spaces for dialogue and normalize asking questions that people might otherwise shy away from asking, we see ally engagement soar.
Representation isn’t just important—it’s everything
There’s something powerful about seeing someone like yourself represented in the workplace. Visibility at all levels signals what’s possible and sends a message that you belong here.
Leading this group was more than just a passion project for me—it was a transformational leadership experience. And I’m a better collaborator, facilitator, and advocate because of it.
If you’ve ever considered getting involved in an ERG, don’t wait for permission. Raise your hand. Step in. Start small. The impact is real.
